About the Project
The Navakka project area is located approximately 30 kilometers off the coast of Merikarvia in the Satakunta region on the west coast of Finland. The project area, which totals 670 square kilometers, is within Finland’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Plans for Navakka include installing 70-100 wind turbines, with a total production capacity of 1,500 megawatts (MW). The project would add 6.5-7 terawatt hours (TWh) of renewable electricity to Finland’s electricity grid. This would help respond to a rising demand for electricity owing to the rapid electrification of industry, transportation, and heating.
Project status
Project development is paused due to the regulation on offshore wind in the EEZ being incomplete and the challenging market outlook. At present, we do not see the conditions in place to realize the project.
