About the Project

The wind power park is located just outside Slättmon. It consists of 42 wind turbines from Siemens-Gamesa, with a total height of approximately 200 meters and a rotor diameter of 170 meters. The annual production from the park is around 800 GWh providing Hydro Extrusion Sweden in Vetlanda and the telecommunications infrastructure company Telenor with electricity under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The majority of the land in the project area is owned by SCA.

Eolus and Hydro Rein acquired the project jointly from Enercon in June 2021. By optimizing and amending the permits, the project could be built with fewer turbines than planned but with the same total capacity.  In 2022, 75 percent of the project was sold to German asset manager MEAG. Eolus sold its entire stake (51 percent), while Hydro REIN sold 24 percent of the shares and remains a 25 percent owner. Eolus and Hydro Rein have constructed the wind farm on behalf of MEAG under a Construction Management Agreement. Eolus will provide asset management services for the wind farm under a 15-year contract. Stor-Skälsjön was completed and handed over to MEAG and Hydro Rein in March 2025.

Local community grants from the wind farm will be distributed annually throughout the entire lifespan of the facility.
The first grants were distributed in 2024, and among the first recipients were a local school, a community center and sports and outdoor association.

Blade collapse in Stor-Skälsjön

A blade on one of the wind turbines in the Stor-Skälsjön wind park collapsed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, and parts of the blade fell to the ground. No one was injured, and the area around the affected turbine was immediately sealed off. The turbine manufacturer, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident. They will also initiate a thorough clean-up of the area once it has been assessed and deemed safe.
